YanMar Hydraulic Filter Service

Yanmar uses 1 reservoir for both the hydraulic oil and the transmission oil. This oil is a Hydraulic Transmission oil. Never use a simple Hydraulic oil.

The hydraulic pump on all yanmar tractors is very simple. It is basically two gears running together at high speeds to move the oil. These gears must have extremely tight tolerences in order for this to work. Because of these tight tolerences, and dirt or debris will almost always destroy a pump.

Because of this, it is important that your oil be clean and your filter or screen be serviced periodically. Not all Yanmar tractors have hydraulic filter. In fact only the 20 series, 02 series, some of the F and Fx series gray market, and some of the US versions have a spin on filter. Most have small tubular screens inside the transmission housing that filter the oil.

If your tractor has a spin on filter, replacement is a breeze.

1 - Be sure that you have a replacement filter on hand. These are not filters that you will find at a local parts store. Please check our sponsors for a replacement hydraulic filters.

2 - Using a filter wrench or channel lock plyers, remove the oil filter. As the oil is draining out of the filter housing, remove the drain plug. This is located just below the rear axles. There may be two or more plugs that you will need to remove in order to get all of the oil drained. Use a large drain pan as it may hold many gallons.

3- If your tractor has the screen type filter, after the oil has drained, locate the screen. The screen will always be in the transmission housing. It will usually be on the directly on the opposite side of the large hydraulic suction line that goes into the right (sitting on the seat) side of the transmission. You will need to remove a 2-4 bolt plate that holds this filter in. The filter may also be directly behind the large suction line. To remove this filter you will need to remove the rubber hose connection thatcouples the two sections of steel hyd line together. Then remove the 3-4 bolt plate where the line goes into the transmission. The screen will be behind that plate. If the screen is in none of these places, it will be behind a 2-3 bolt plate at the very botton of the transmission. Refer to your parts manual or operation manual for exact location.

4 - Clean the screen with a carburator cleaner or fresh diesel. http://www.voolco.com/

Fuel filter
Fuel filter

A fuel filter is a filter in the fuel line that screens out dirt and rust particles from the fuel, normally made into cartridges containing a filter paper. They are found in most internal combustion engines.

Fuel filters serve a vital function in today s modern, tight-tolerance engine fuel systems. Unfiltered fuel may contain several kinds of contamination, for example paint chips and dirt that has been knocked into the tank while filling, or rust caused by moisture in a steel tank. If these substances are not removed before the fuel enters the system, they will cause rapid wear and failure of the fuel pump and injectors, due to the abrasive action of the particles on the high-precision components used in modern injection systems. Fuel filters also improve performance, as the fewer contaminants present in the fuel, the more efficiently it can be burnt.

Fuel filters need to be maintained at regular intervals. This is usually a case of simply disconnecting the filter from the fuel line and replacing it with a new one, although some specially designed filters can be cleaned and reused many times. If a filter is not replaced regularly it may become clogged with contaminants and cause a restriction in the fuel flow, causing an appreciable drop in engine performance as the engine struggles to draw enough fuel to continue running normally.

Some filters, especially found on diesel engines, are of a bowl-like design which collect water in the bottom (as water is more dense than diesel). The water can then be drained off by opening a valve in the bottom of the bowl and letting it run out, until the bowl contains only diesel. Many fuel filters contain a water sensor to signal to the engine control unit or directly to the driver (lamp on dashboard) if the water reach the warning level. It is especially undesirable for water in fuel to be drawn into a diesel engine fuel system, as the system relies on the diesel for lubrication of the moving parts, and if water gets into a moving part which requires constant lubrication (for example an injector valve), it will quickly cause overheating and unnecessary wear. This type of filter may also include a sensor, which will alert the operator when the filter needs to be drained. In proximity of the diesel fuel filter there might be a fuel heater to avoid the forming of paraffin wax (in case of low temperatures) inside the filtrating element which can stop the fuel flow to the engine. http://www.voolco.com/

Types of oil filter
Types of oil filter

Mechanical
Mechanical designs employ an element made of bulk material (such as cotton waste) or pleated Filter paper to entrap and sequester suspended contaminants. As material builds up on (or in) the filtration medium, oil flow is progressively restricted. This requires periodic replacement of the filter element (or the entire filter, if the element is not separately replaceable).

Cartridge and spin-on
Early engine oil filters were of cartridge (or replaceable element) construction, in which a permanent housing contains a replaceable filter element or cartridge. The housing is mounted either directly on the engine or remotely with supply and return pipes connecting it to the engine. In the mid-1950s, the spin-on oil filter design was introduced: a self-contained housing and element assembly which was to be unscrewed from its mount, discarded, and replaced with a new one. This made filter changes more convenient and potentially less messy, and quickly came to be the dominant type of oil filter installed by the world s automakers. Conversion kits were offered for vehicles originally equipped with cartridge-type filters. In the 1990s, European and Asian automakers in particular began to shift back in favor of replaceable-element filter construction, because it generates less waste with each filter change. American automakers have likewise begun to shift to replaceable-cartridge filters, and retrofit kits to convert from spin-on to cartridge-type filters are offered for popular applications. Commercially available automotive oil filters vary in their design, materials, and construction details. These variables affect the efficacy, durability, and cost of the filter.

Magnetic
Magnetic filters use a permanent magnet or an electromagnet to capture ferromagnetic particles. An advantage of magnetic filtration is that maintaining the filter simply requires cleaning the particles from the surface of the magnet. Automatic transmissions in vehicles frequently have a magnet in the fluid pan to sequester magnetic particles and prolong the life of the media-type fluid filter. Some companies are manufacturing magnets that attach to the outside of an oil filter or magnetic drain plugs -- first invented and offered for cars and motorcycles in the mid-1930s -- to aid in capturing these metallic particles, though there is ongoing debate as to the effectiveness of such devices. http://www.voolco.com/

Types of oil filter
Air filter

A particulate air filter is a device composed of fibrous materials which removes solid particulates such as dust, pollen, mold, and bacteria from the air. A chemical air filter consists of an absorbent or catalyst for the removal of airborne molecular contaminants such as volatile organic compounds or ozone. Air filters are used in applications where air quality is important, notably in building ventilation systems and in engines.

Some buildings, as well as aircraft and other man-made environments (e.g., satellites and space shuttles) use foam, pleated paper, or spun fiberglass filter elements. Another method, air ionisers, use fibers or elements with a static electric charge, which attract dust particles. The air intakes of internal combustion engines and compressors tend to use either paper, foam, or cotton filters. Oil bath filters have fallen out of favor. The technology of air intake filters of gas turbines has improved significantly in recent years, due to improvements in the aerodynamics and fluid-dynamics of the air-compressor part of the Gas Turbines.

Automotive cabin air filters
The cabin air filter is typically a pleated-paper filter that is placed in the outside-air intake for the vehicle s passenger compartment. Some of these filters are rectangular and similar in shape to the combustion air filter. Others are uniquely shaped to fit the available space of particular vehicles outside-air intakes. Being a relatively recent addition to automobile equipment, this filter is often overlooked , and can greatly reduce the effectiveness of the vehicles air conditioning and heating performance. Clogged or dirty cabin air filters can significantly reduce airflow from the cabin vents, as well as introduce allergens into the cabin air stream. The poor performance of these filters is obscured by manufacturers by not using the MERV rating system. Some people mistakenly believe that some of these are HEPA filters. http://www.voolco.com/

How to Choose a Paper Folding Machine
How to Choose a Paper Folding Machine

Unless you re already an expert on paper folding machines, you re probably looking for a little advice when it comes to selecting the right variety for your home or business. This article outlines some key things to look for when purchasing just the right paper folding machine.

First and foremost, think about the sizes of paper you will need to fold. Paper folding machines come in a range of sizes, so you should have no problem finding one to fit the size of documents you will be folding most.

Secondly, consider the type of fold you would like your paper folding machine to make. Tri-folds, half-folds, and a-z folds are very common, and you will not have a problem finding a good machine to make these folds for you. Some machines will also perform right angle folds, gate-folds and church-folds. If you need a Paper Folding Machine that can do specialty and customized folds, do not purchase a low-end machine, as you probably will not be satisfied with its output.

For some businesses, one fold just isn t enough. If you need a machine that can make multiple folds, be sure you look into how manageable the process is for setting up the machine. Some equipment (especially the lower-priced folding machines) are difficult to change from one pattern to another. If you know you will be using a lot of different configurations, you should look into a machine that offers digital fold plate adjustment. If that is not an option, machines that have the fold plate set up at a ninety degree angle to the paper s path are easier to manage than other types requiring more adjustments and attention to detail during fold change and set up.

Another factor to think about is the thickness and type of paper you need to fold. The majority of cheaper paper folding machines (those retailing for under $5000) experience some problems when folding heavier weights of paper (like index stock or cardstock) unless it is pre-scored. Additionally, these lower end paper folders will also mishandle slick finish or glossy paper. You can forward a sample of your paper to have it tested on various machines to see which will provide the best fold for your paper weight and finish. http://www.yoca-paper-folder.com/

Update on Japan s Photocopiers Manufacturers
Update on Japan s Photocopiers Manufacturers

Two weeks ago, Canon Copiers published information on how some of the world s major photocopiers manufacturers had been affected by the disaster in Japan. The piece assessed, as far as was possible at the time, what level of damage had been done to companies premises and machinery, what contributions manufacturers had made to the relief effort and whether there could be any certainty for the outlook over the coming weeks and months. Since that article, the situation in Japan has evolved significantly. Manufacturers have been working overtime to ensure they can make full and speedy recoveries and some have provided updates to keep consumers, partner organisations and other concerned parties informed as to the ongoing state of affairs. Some companies, such as Canon, have released more detailed information on their assistance with the broader relief effort. A significant development though has been the growing anxiety, particularly in export markets, about the potential safety threat posed by goods manufactured in Japan, with some consumers concerned about the risk of radioactive contamination. A number of suppliers have made statements to reassure consumers over what will likely remain an anxiety in the coming weeks and months. Here we provide as much information as possible about the present situation for photocopiers manufacturers in Japan and the possible implications for consumers here in the UK.
In a release shortly after the impact of the earthquake and tsunami on operations on the Fukushima nuclear power facility was becoming clearer, Canon relayed to US customers what it hoped would be a reassuring message, that the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) had been carefully monitoring and assessing the potential for radiological contamination from goods entering the US from Japan. Various radiation detection methods have been used in air and sea ports, mail facilities and elsewhere to scan cargo. CBP say that they are making use of radiation detection equipment and operational protocols to resolve any safety risks.

Ricoh announced to customers and suppliers on 1 April,

"At the present time, we are confident that our products are safe."

Reiterating Canon s message, Ricoh noted the special care being taken by US CBP with the use of radiation detection equipment at all borders and the strict operational protocols which are being followed.

Lead Glasses for Radiation Protection
Lead Glasses for Radiation Protection

X-rays are used in all areas of medicine for diagnosing broken bones, tumors, certain forms of heart disease, early lung cancer and a host of other ailments and conditions. As anyone working in the field of radiology knows, extra care must be taken in protecting the eyes from exposure to radiation.
Eye Protection

All practitioners who treat the eye know that they must wear lead glasses for radiation protection. The eyes are especially delicate because they contain so much fluid. The proteins within the lens exposed to radiation can coagulate and congeal, causing a cataract to form.

Yearly Amount of Radiation

The average person can get up to 300 simple x-rays in a one-year period. This would mean that it is safe to get a chest x-ray or a set of dental x-rays. If the patient is pregnant, however, she should not have x-rays done without the advice of her doctor. He would probably have her wait until after she had delivered her baby.

Computerized Axial Tomography (CAT) scans use a great deal of the allowed yearly radiation. Anyone having a CAT scan should let the doctor know about pregnancy and other x-rays that were taken within the last year.

Any professional in a field where x-rays are used should use protective wear, such as a lead apron, lead gloves and leaded glasses. These glasses are excellent radiation protection for the eyes.

Protective Glasses

Lead glasses have a few interesting features. Normally, the lead crystal glass is only on the front lenses, just like a regular pair of glasses. However, the frame for the leaded glasses is often dark plastic and eliminates the temptation to look sideways while doing an x-ray procedure. For a clinician to see to the right or to the left, he would have to turn his head.

Radiation dosimeter sales spiking since nuke disaster
radiation dosimeter sales spiking since nuke disaster
A steady stream of customers in search of radiation dosimeters filled a store tucked away in an alley in Tokyo’s Akihabara district on Nov. 19.

A year ago, many of the Toyo Keisokuki store’s new clients would not have known what a dosimeter was, but in Japan since the accidents at the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant, the meters are rapidly becoming a hot item.

More than 10 types of dosimeters line the shelves at Toyo Keisokuki, with price tags ranging from 30,000 yen to 200,000 yen (about $400 to $2,667).

The store says it has sold several hundred dosimeters since the disaster, often to parents or grandparents concerned about the threat of radiation to their children or grandchildren. Sales are up 10 times on previous years, when most buyers were engineers.

One of the new customers, Tsunehito Wake, 38, runs a firm in Tokyo s Suginami Ward and has three young children aged between 1 and 5.

Concerned about the effects of radiation from the Fukushima disaster, he evacuated his children to Shikoku island in western Japan in March and is still concerned about contamination at his Tokyo-area home.

He brought in an expert to measure radiation levels in his garden, but was visiting Toyo Keisokuki on Nov. 19 to get his own dosimeter. He said he had searched for dosimeters on the Internet, but needed advice to work out which one to get.

"If the dosimeter shows a high radiation level that makes you anxious, you should report it to the local government," a clerk told him.

Wake eventually bought a Russian-made dosimeter with a manual written in Japanese and priced between 30,000 yen and 40,000 yen.

Masami Ishibashi, an assistant at the store, said she always asks customers what they want to measure before selling anything.

Small Article radiation monitor
Small Article radiation monitor

Automating routine radiation contamination frisking using instruments like Ludlum s Model 54 Small Article Radiation Monitor is a well-proven methodology for ensuring that items leaving controlled areas are clean. Ludlum s Model 54 has adopted time-tested and proven concepts, gathered from throughout the industry, and integrated them into a new, ground-up design that employs the latest computer and detector technologies. The result is a more robust, user-friendly, and cost-effective design than any other currently available. Central to the design is the detector chamber, which is configured to deliver the largest and most sensitive detection volume presently available for this type of monitor. The specially-designed, large area, 5 cm (2 in.) thick plastic scintillator detectors are arranged to optimize the sensitivity throughout the chamber. A stainless steel liner protects the detectors while facilitating decon. The chamber can be configured with either four or six detectors, and either 1 or 2 in. (2.5 or 5.1 cm) of lead. The lead is shipped separately and easily loaded on site.

The Model 54 is equipped with two doors, which can be mounted with either a left- or right-hand swing. Hardened steel door hinges, securely bolted to the instrument frame, employ ball-bearings to make operating the doors as easy as possible. Very powerful, non-jamming, electromagnet-activated door locks may be configured by the user to support logistics for single or pass-through type operation. Ludlum s new QPASS algorithms provide a means whereby administrators can optimize the settings best suited for their operations. QPASS additionally surpasses all other technologies via built-in intelligence that can automatically optimize settings as the count begins to deliver the most efficient and effective count possible. It s a perfect balance between minimum count time and maximum sensitivity that affords eliminating a second count to verify any alarms. http://www.chinadosimeter.com/
